Styles - Ladies and Gentlemen...We did it! We got renewed! Anyways, I'm sure you know who I am, but in case you weren't aware I'm the G.O.A.T the whole shebang, John Styles and I'm here with a man who is the Lex Luthor to my Superman, Mr Owen Hawes. Owen...hows it going buddy?
Owen - It's good. It's actually funny. People may not be aware of this but we actually are the only two members of the first gcw card.
Styles - Wow, really? Man, I didn't even realize that. After all this, we were the only ones who were able to ride it out huh? I remember the week after though, we were in that 4 way match. How do you think your run since then has gone?
Owen - I liked it. Unlike the.. ahem, competition, we're allowed to be as expressive as we want here. Bro, the boss let me hang his brother from a noose because he knew it was part of the story I wanted to tell. Like, I feel very strongly about the Nightmare character, so I would have it difficult for a writer to hand me a script and say "read...". It's just not me, you know?
Styles - Oh I get ya man, just look at some of the shit we've done, you think they'd allow that "over there"? It's great to be able to have that creative freedom and I'm sure that privilege is amplified 100 times over for you considering how deep the Owen Hawes character really goes. So what's the thought process behind "The Nightmare"? What gave you the idea for that character?
Owen - So I'm a Shakespeare nerd. The man's a fucking genius right? So I watch this movie called Looking for Richard with Al Pacino, it's a documentary about Al Pacino making a production of Richard III, you know, "my horse my horse my kingdom for a horse". This Richard character man, he's the fucking worst. He basically goes from lowly runt with a hunchback to a king and he does it by lying, cheating, stealing and murdering his way to the crown. I thought, alright, I can combine that with my love of mythology and said, okay, how would Richard fair if he were in mount Olympus instead of Gloucester? He'd use the worst parts of his humanity to take down the gods. That's the nightmare.
Styles - Let me be honest for a second...The place I least expected something as disturbing and disgusting as The Nightmare to come from would be Shakespeare. That's certainly an...interesting backstory and definitely the most creative and different I've ever heard about. Now we all know Owen Hawes is a despicable bastard, but he seems to be turning into somewhat of an anti-hero by targeting The Conspiracy, so what does the future hold for him? Will we see Owen become a fan favourite anytime soon?
Owen - Ha! Well, I never asked to be cheered or booed. Right now my focus is on Kidd West. I really can't tell the audience how to react to me, but what I do know is that they reacted to me returning really well. I missed it man. It felt good, it would have felt better if I got my hands on Kidd but that'll happen in due time.
Styles - Well we all want to get our hands on West right? But yeah, they certainly did enjoy seeing you again so...who knows. Anyways, I want to try something right now. I want to see your thoughts on certain things from your perspective and the perspective of The Nightmare, so I'm going to throw some people, places or things at you, and I want you to answer what you think about it and what Owen Hawes thinks about it. Sound good?
Owen – Bring it
Styles – Kidd West
Owen – Die Kidd Die. Next question
Styles – Is that from both perspectives? Ouch…
Owen – It's no gimmick. I'm here to hurt him. Sorry to snap, but this is why I'm here. I won the world title, I've main evented extravaganza. I've done the wrestling, this shit is personal.
Styles – Alright, you heard it here first folks. Moving on. The GCW Fans
Owen – Haha! Intelligent. So when I was hardcore champion, the "we're not worthy" chant began to catch on. They realized that my whole thing was a man going up against the gods, and they realized that my character wants to be a deity and that's their way of performing their role.
Styles – What does The Nightmare think about them? Does he accept them as...followers, for lack of a better term, or is he indifferent about the support he's gotten?
Owen – See that's the interesting part. If the nightmare believes he's a deity, is he delusional? If he is, the audience are simply believers. But if the Nightmare is a false prophet, then they're sheep, following a liar. Which one is Owen? That's up to the audience to decide.
Styles – That's...ahh...I don't know what to say about that so I'll avoid it just like The Conspiracy avoids me. What about The GCW World Title?
Owen – The Nightmare sees it as a throne he can carry around. Power. Shows the world that they're lower than him. Owen, on the other hand, well... I'm old school, I think the world title is more than a prop. It's validation that your work is being appreciated. They aren't barely looking at your shit in passing. They're stopping and looking at what you're doing. As an artist, and this is an art, it's our exact goal. It's to have our shit be seen. A writer doesn't write to put his writing in a drawer. A painter doesn't paint to put his painting in a cabinet. A wrestler doesn't wrestle to have it be forgotten.
Styles – That's spot on. As I'm sure you're aware, I've been chasing that title for a good 8 months now, and considering I've been here since day 1 and constantly put on MOTY candidates, it's a bit of a kick in the balls to have only been given 1 shot at the title...granted, it was the main event of the biggest show of the year against yourself, but nonetheless, I feel it's something I need in order for my career to mean something. Anyways, we'll do one last one. Now I'm interested to see what The Nightmare thinks about John Styles. We've crossed paths a lot but we've never really seemed to have a problem with each other.
Owen – See this is interesting, we may be sitting here, but the Nightmare is seething right now. He never beat you. Plain and simple. It's driving him mad. Since day one. He just can't do it. But, he's also aware of the fact that it will happen, and it will be absolutely worth it.
Styles – Haha! Well I beg to differ about that last part, but that's a very interesting point of view. It's weird to know that he is so mad over something, when typically, even though he's a madman, he's usually calm about everything.
Owen – Yeah man, the Nightmare is that because it's in control. You won't be if the Nightmare never loses it. Never shows emotion, just fear.
Styles – Well Mr Hawes, it's been great to pick your brain but I'm afraid we've both got things to do so we're gonna need to end it here. At least the best part about doing so is that we've got more content for part 2, yay! Anyways, is there any last things you'd like to say to the GCW Universe?
Owen – It's been a pleasure man. I just wanted to tell them to keep watching what I'm putting out there, we've put a lot of effort into what's about to happen, so trust us, you'll love it.
Styles – A great message, and that statement is shared by the entire locker room, but for Owen Hawes, I'm John Styles and this has been "Will This Be Renewed"...let's hope it does for episode 3 or else I'm out of a pretty big pay check...oh well, bye folks!
